The services of publishing company "Authorhouse" are now only assured for 2 years.

As opposed to "1stbooks Library" who told authors that "their books will never go out of print."

1stBooksLibrary became Authorhouse after I published with them. I should have more rights in this 'self-publishing industry.'

I even told this to the FBI - do they care? I think not. They have their hands full with osama, and are tied when it comes to Justice.

so they discovered Hatshepsut's mummy...
One Question: Was it "blond"? Because the REAL Hatshepsut was "blond."

I should know,

I live in 2+ separate lives.
One is a mentally disturbed writer on public health care record.
The other is a billionaire (from first book, stolen/published in 1992) with lots of property.
Which do I choose? One life cannot access the other. How do I correct the situation?

For Instance...

Do I own the rights to my book? (2007)
The author retains all rights to the content of the book. AuthorHouse retains the rights to the format and layout. AuthorHouse also retains rights to the ISBN in the event the author republishes.

Who owns film, television and other media rights?
The author retains all rights to the content of the book and is free to pursue any media contracts.

Does my contract renew automatically?
The contract is open-ended by nature and continues until author cancels or the Distribution Channel Access Fee expires.

Can I publish my e-book somewhere else?
The author owns the rights to the content and can publish the content of the e-book elsewhere but cannot utilize the ISBN or the format/layout.

Who owns the rights to the cover?
AuthorHouse retains rights to the cover art and design except in the event the author submits the artwork or utilizes the AuthorHouse Exclusive Cover Design program or AuthorHouse Advanced Cover design program.

Can I use my cover image for advertising?
AuthorHouse does not provide the cover file externally for promotional use. The author may utilize the cover image if they submitted the artwork used on the cover.

What happens if I cancel with AuthorHouse?
In the event the author exercises their right to cancel or the Distribution Channel Access Fee expires, the book is removed from the AuthorHouse website and from our distributor, Ingram Books. Any books in the retail channel will remain there until sold and the author will receive royalty for remaining sales. If the author wishes to know how many are in the retail channel, such number will be given to the author and they may purchase the copies from the channel. The author does not receive a refund of monies paid and materials are not returned.

What happens if AuthorHouse cancels?
If AuthorHouse exercises the right to cancel the book for content reasons such as copyright, libel, hate speech or extreme pornography all contract fees will be refunded and materials will be returned. If the Distribution Channel Access Fee expires, no refund will be granted.

What if there is more than one author?
If there is more than one author, a Joint Work Addendum is needed. The Joint Work Addendum can be downloaded from the AuthorHouse website and needs to be signed by all co-authors. The Joint Work Addendum designates one author as the single point of contact with AuthorHouse for all correspondence including, but not limited to, galley/cover corrections, general correspondence and quarterly statements/payments.

What if I have published previously?
The contract with AuthorHouse is non-exclusive and we publish the book provided your previous publisher also has a non-exclusive contract or you have a release from them.

Is my book returnable?
By nature, print on demand books are considered non-returnable by the retailers. AuthorHouse does offer a Booksellers Return Program for a fee that will tag the book as returnable and it is renewable for a fee each year.

Can I use have my production files once the process is completed?
AuthorHouse does not provide the final galley or cover files to the author for any reason.

Authorhouse.com was originally called 1stBooks Library. I had signed a contract for book publication. They later changed their company name, and apparently their contract, without consent of the authors. Now I am supposed to pay them if my books do not sell well, or they cancel my books; even though their original paperwork proclaimed it "will never go out of print."
this is total camel dung! What happened to their claim, "no hidden fees"? Ingram is the head of these companies; even xlibris.com is on the take, conning authors who publish with them, and adding a distribution fee if books do not sell... This is a SCAM, preying on the little guy. They should be arrested!

well, why don't people buy Aegyptus Cryogenta, instead of The Flawed Emerald?
I mean, it has the SAME AUTHOR, only FE is much older and better known in its previous name.
Both are sci/fic, mostly. Aegyptus is an adventure type novel. FE is, well, different... I recommend Tears for Isis if you want authentic cultural action, it is a war-novel involving a land near Iraq. So....
